How SureSmile Works

After determining the changes that need to be made to your teeth, we will provide you with a series of clear aligners. Each aligner will need to be worn for about two weeks at a time before you switch to the next one. Over time, your teeth will gradually shift toward their intended positions. You’ll need to come to our office periodically so that we can make sure that the treatment is going as expected.

Who SureSmile Can Help

SureSmile can be used for more kinds of corrections than you might realize. Here are some examples of situations where they can be a good choice for your grin:

Crowded Teeth

When your teeth are too close together, they can be difficult to clean properly, and they can have a less-than-positive impact on the appearance of your smile. SureSmile can guide the teeth to where they need to be so that there’s a sufficient amount of space between them.

Gaps Between Teeth

A gap in your smile might increase your risk for tooth decay due to the increased chances of food getting trapped between your teeth. Luckily, SureSmile can help close these gaps so that your teeth are properly aligned.

Bite Alignment

An improperly aligned bite can contribute to jaw pain and other issues. If you’re currently suffering from an overbite, an underbite, or another type of bite problem, it’s worth checking to see if SureSmile is potentially a viable solution.

The Benefits of SureSmile

Treatments involving traditional braces can sometimes take as long as two or even three years. Meanwhile, SureSmile treatments can often be completed in about 12 to 18 months, allowing you to achieve a straighter smile that much sooner. Additionally, since the aligners are removable, they don’t come with any diet restrictions, and they won’t get in the way while you’re brushing or flossing.

How Much Does SureSmile Cost?

We can discuss the financial aspect of your treatment in more detail when you visit us for a consultation. You will be provided with an accurate estimate as well as information about your options for payment.

SureSmile FAQs

Who Is Not Eligible for SureSmile?

Most adults and teenagers can be considered potential candidates for SureSmile clear aligners, but the treatment may not be the best option for certain patients. For example:

  • If you have severe alignment issues, SureSmile clear aligners may not be able to make the necessary corrections to your teeth. In these types of situations, traditional braces may be a better choice.
  • Using tobacco products can stain your SureSmile aligners and have detrimental effects on your oral health. As such, SureSmile is generally not recommended for those who are unable or unwilling to give up smoking during the treatment.
  • Unusually small teeth, misshapen teeth, and eroded teeth can affect a person’s eligibility for SureSmile. Fortunately, these issues can often be corrected with additional dental work.

Can You Eat with SureSmile Aligners In?

Sneaking a quick bite without removing your aligners may not seem like a big deal, but it’s never a good idea. The aligners are not made to stand up to the pressures involved in the process of biting and chewing food, which means they’re very likely to break. On top of that, directly exposing the aligners to food could end up discoloring them.

As such, when mealtime arrives, you should always take your SureSmile aligners out and store them in a safe place. You can put them back in once you have finished eating and cleaned your teeth thoroughly. Remember, since you won’t be wearing your aligners when you eat, you will have the freedom to enjoy all kinds of foods without restriction.

It should also be noted that you shouldn’t drink anything while wearing SureSmile either. The only exception is water, and even then you’ll want to make sure that it’s at room temperature.

What Should I Do if My SureSmile Aligner Broke?

It depends on the extent of the damage. If it’s just a hairline crack, you may be able to continue wearing the aligner as long as you’re careful about removing it and placing it back on your teeth. For more severe damage, you should call our office immediately to see what our team suggests.

In cases where you were almost done with your current aligner anyway, it may be possible for you to just start wearing the next one in the series. However, it’s also possible that you might have to go back to wearing the previous aligner while waiting for a replacement to be made.

Will I Need to Wear a Retainer After SureSmile Treatment?

Yes. If the teeth are left alone, they may eventually start to drift back toward their original positions. As such, wearing a retainer is necessary to ensure that you’re able to maintain the results of your SureSmile treatment. Our team will give you clear instructions for how long you will need to wear your retainer as well as how to take care of it properly.
